Biography/History note | Formerly the Parish of St. Mary, Stoke Newington (called also Parish of Stoke Newington), the parish was included in the sanitary district of Hackney until March 25, 1894, when the district of Stoke Newington was formed. United with the districtof South Hornsey, it became a metropolitan borough in Nov. 1900. In 1965, it merged with the old boroughs of Hackney and Shoreditch to form a new borough of Hackney. |
