African American National Biography, accessed June 21, 2015, via Oxford African American Studies Center database: (Baker, Anita; rhythm and blues musician / singer; born 26 January 1958 in Toledo, Ohio, United States; relocated with her family at an early age to Detroit, Michigan; released first album with Beverly Glenn, “The Songstress” (1983); left the label, sang with Elektra Records (1985); her second album was mixed contemporary rhythm and blues with gospel and jazz, “Rapture”; produced the Top-Ten hit “Sweet Love” which brought her a pair of Grammy Awards, including one for Best Rhythm & Blues Song for “Sweet Love” (1987); next album, “Giving You the Best That I Got” (1988), likewise became a hit; the album, “Compositions” (1990) brought her seventh Grammy Award; reappeared with the album “Rhythm of Love” (1994) which hit number three on the Billboard Top 200 and won her eighth Grammy, this one for Best Female Rhythm and Blues Vocal Performance; signed with Atlantic Records (1996); signed with the Blue Note label to record a pair of albums (2004); first album in a decade, “My Everything” (2004) went gold and landed in the Top 200 at number four)
