Rare Bk & Spec Coll files (Daniel Murray Collection; Daniel A. P. Murray Collection. Mr. Murray, employed by the Library of Congress from 1871 to 1923, was asked to select books and pamphlets for an exhibit of Negro authors at the 1900 Paris exposition. Interest generated by this project resulted in the Library's creation of the "Library of Congress Collection of Books by Colored Authors," also known as the "Colored Author Collection" [no publs. in LC database]. In 1926, the Library received 1,448 books and pamphlets privately assembled by Murray, which were added to the Colored Author Collection. Subsequently, it was dispersed: books were integrated into the general collections; duplicates were sent to Howard University; and nearly 400 pamphlets were transferred to the Rare Book and Special Collections Division. Materials formerly owned by Murray are now in two collections in the Rare Book and Special Collections Division: the Daniel Murray Collection and the Daniel Murray Pamphlet Collection)
