Encyc. of Ukraine: v. 4, p. 355 (Tysmenytsia (Tysmenycja or Tys'menycja); a town in Ivano-Frankivske raion, Ivano-Frankivske oblast. It was first mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicles under the year 1143. From the end of the 14th cent. the town was ruled by Poland. Tysmenytsia was destroyed by the Turks and then the Tatars in 1515 and 1676 respectively. After the partition of Poland in 1772 it was annexed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After 1919 the town again came under Polish rule. In 1939 [as part of the Western Ukrainian lands] it was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR)
