New Castle, Del., April 1, 1781; attended New Jersey College; lieutenant in the 1st Company, 3rd Regiment, of the 1st Brigade of the Delaware militia, where he rose to the rank of captain; commissioned a major during War of 1812, served until 1828 in both artillery and infantry; in 1810 became prothonotary of New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, as which he served 2 years; New Castle County's peace and register chancery 1827-1825 (sic), and was Governor Polk's aide-de-camp in 1827.
