Bolʹsh. sov. ėnt︠s︡ikl., 3rd ed: v. 24, p. 534 (Stolper, Aleksandr Borisovich, b. 07-30 (08-12)-1907 in Dvinsk [Daugavpils, Latvia]; Soviet director and film dramatist, from 1923-1927 he worked as an actor and director. From 1927 to 1930/31 he wrote screenplays for Soviet films. In 1938 Stolper finished his directors apprenticeship under S.M. Ėĭzenshteĭn. He directed several films based on screeplays by K.M. Simonov, such as Parenʹ iz nashego goroda (1942). Since 1965 he has taught at the Vsesoi︠u︡znyĭ gosudarstvennyĭ institut kinematografii imeni S.A. Gerasimova)
