NUCMC data from Westfield Athenaeum for Gillett family collection, 1820-1957 (Frederick H. Gillett was born Oct. 16, 1851 in Westfield, Mass. to Edward Bates Gillett (1817-1899) and Lucy Fowler Gillett (1830-1916). He died on July 31, 1935. He graduated from Amherst College in 1874 and graduated from Harvard Law in 1877. Thereafter he was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Springfield, Mass. He was Assistant Attorney General of Massachusetts from 1879 to 1882. He was a member of the State House of Representatives between 1890 and 1891. He was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House of Representatives from Mar. 4, 1893 to Mar. 3, 1925. On Nov. 25, 1915 he married Christine (Rice) Hoar, the widow of former U.S. Representative Rockwood Hoar. He acted as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1919 to 1925. He was elected to the U.S. Senate from 1925 to 1931. He retired to California, eventually passing away in Springfield, Mass.)
