Add'l info. rec'd from the repository, Sept. 2, 1998 (There were originally two towns in the area now known as Mystic. On the west bank of the Mystic River was a town originally called Portersville. In 1828 its name was changed to West Mystic; in 1851 the northern 2/3's of this became Mystic River and in 1890 that finally became Mystic; on the east bank of the river was a town originally called Mystic Bridge; in 1890 it became Mystic; in 1890, at head of the river, the 'upper village' originally known as Mystic became Old Mystic)
