Biography/History noteTom Sawyer is a fictional character created by Mark Twain. A boy of about 12 or 13 years of age, Tom resides in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, Missouri, in about the year 1845. He is the title character of the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), and appears in three other Twain novels, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), Tom Sawyer Abroad (1894), and Tom Sawyer, Detective (1896), and in at least three unfinished Twain works.
