Among its founders is Robert Rosen, formally the Director of the UCLA Film & Television Archive and the current Dean of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. In 1985, the organization changed its name to the Los Angeles International Gay and Lesbian Film/Video Festival, established nonprofit status, and left the UCLA campus. In 1994, the event became known as Outfest: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.)
