His family immigrated to West Bronx, New York. His sound became the foundation of hip-hop (1973); he developed a technique called "the Merry-Go-Round"; pioneered the DJ/MC/break crew triad with his collective the Herculords; performed in the most popular Bronx nightclubs (1976); was stabbed as he prepared for a show at a club called the Sparkle (1977); withdrew from the hip-hop scene. He is credited as the father of hip-hop)
