Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 535 ("Katherine (Gudger) Langley" born near Marshall in Madison County, North Carolina. Graduated from Woman's College in Richmond, Virginia, did graduate work at Emerson College of Oratory in Boston and taught expression in Bristol, Tennessee at the Virginia Institute. Her husband John Wesley Langley was elected to Congress in March 1907 with Langley serving as his secretary. When her husband resigned from Congress after having been convicted of a liquor law violation, she was elected to replace him. Served two terms from March 4, 1927 to March 3, 1931. Served as railroad commissioner in Kentucky from 1939 to 1942, then as the postmaster of Pikeville, Ky. Died in Pikeville.)
