Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 877 (Maurice Hudson Thatcher, U.S. Congressman, born in Chicago. The family moved to Butler County, Ky. in 1874. Attended the Bryant and Stratton Business College in Louisville. Elected clerk of the circuit court of Butler County, where he served 1893-1896. Studied law in Frankfort, was admitted to the bar and set up practice there. Was assistant attorney general of Kentucky 1898-1900, then moved to Louisville, where he was assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of Kentucky from 1901-1906. Served as civil governor of the Panama Canal Zone 1910-1913. In 1922 he was elected as a Republican state representative to the U.S. Congress, where he ultimately served from March 4, 1923 to March 3, 1933. After this service he stayed in Washington D.C. to practice law. Died in D.C. on January 6, 1973.)
