Wikipedia, Oct. 24, 2013 : John Wojtowicz (John Stanley Wojtowicz (March 9, 1945 - January 2, 2006); American bank robber whose story inspired the 1975 film Dog day afternoon; married Carmen Bifulco in 1967; separated in 1969; met Ernest Aron (later known as Elizabeth Debbie Eden) in 1971 at an Italian feast in New York City; the two had a wedding ceremony on December 4, 1971, in Greenwich Village; on August 22, 1972, Wojtowicz, Salvatore Naturale and Robert Westenberg, attempted to rob a branch of the Chase Manhattan bank on the corner of East Third Street and Avenue P in Gravesend, Brooklyn; on April 23, 1973, he was sentenced to 20 years in Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary; he died of cancer on January 2, 2006, aged 60, in his mother's home).
