May 13, 1947 in Birmingham; after playing in local semi-pro pop/rock bands in Herefordshire, he quit his job as a trainee architect and turned professional; he toured Germany and Italy with The Doc Thomas Group, before becoming a founder member of Mott The Hoople in 1969; he later played with Mott and British Lions before turning his hand to record producing, gentlemen's hairdressing (briefly) and dealing in antiques; in 1989 he left London and returned to Herefordshire; he ran a retro store in Hereford until February 2003; since then he has earned a living doing various jobs including helping local musicians through various local organisations and recording them at his home studio, as well as selling antiques online and writing articles on music and latterly on backpacking and walking; he lives in the Scottish Isles)
