She graduated from the University of Maryland in 2012 with a passion for serving children and families and a double degree in psychology and journalism. Marissa has volunteered with summer camps and after-school programs since 2006, when she joined the Recreation Team of Tri-Presbytery Junior Camp and fell in love with camps and similar programs as a place to fill out-of-school time with positive peer relationships, fun new experiences in a safe environment, and opportunities to integrate evidence-based practices for positive outcomes throughout the calendar year. Her research focuses on program development, implementation, and evaluation, particularly for programs serving children and adolescents with socioemotional, behavioral, and academic concerns.
