Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, online viewed September 26, 2015 : (born Crittenden County, KY June 30, 1849, studied law and medicine at Ewing College, graduated from the medical department of University of Louisville and practiced medicine until his health failed and he took up law in Crittenden County, Kentucky, where he served as superintendent of schools before being elected to the state Senate 1893-1898 and US Senate 1897-1903. After this he went back to Crittenden County where he engaged in mining and became postmaster of Marion. Died in Marion, Crittenden County KY June 15, 1927)
