Served in the Kentucky House of Representatives 1828-1831; a Republican; sworn in as governor of Kentucky February 23, 1834 and left that office August 31, 1836; served again in state House 1837-1838. Elected to U.S. Senate, serving there February 20, 1841-March 3, 1847. Practiced law in Covington, Ky. until his death December 28, 1854. Morehead, Ky. was named in his honor.)
