Northwestern University Libraries, Nekam, Alexander (1905-1982) papers, viewed Feb. 6, 2017 (Alexander Nekam, born in Budapest, Hungary, October 10, 1905; he received a Doctor of Laws degree sub auspiciis gubernatoris from University of Budapest in 1928; he also studies in Paris and at the London School of Economics, then came to the United States 1929-1931 to study at Harvard Law School, S.J.D. 1931, thesis published in 1938 under the title The Personality Conception of the Legal Entity; worked at law courts in Budapest 1931-1934; after bar exam he became, in 1934, member of the Department of International Law, Hungarian Ministry of Justice, remained there until 1939; worked in Prime Minister's Office 1939-1941, and Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs 1941-1947; taught International Law at the Institute for Foreign Affairs, Budapest, 1942-1945; came to the United States permanently in August 1949; Lecturer in Law for 1 year at Harvard University Law School; studied at Yale University 1950-1952, L.L.B. 1952, elected to the Order of the Coif; Associate Professor at Boston College Law School 1952-1956, becoming an American citizen in 1955; Senior Fellow and Visiting Lecture, Yale Law School, 1956-1957, taught conflicts and seminar in comparative law; Professor of Law at Northwestern from 1957 until his retirement in 1974; died in 1982; his main research interests were the emergence and development of conflicts-of-law approach, conflicts sensitivities in African customary law, and the emotional basis of legal values; the bulk of the papers are interview transcripts from Nekam's research trips to Uganda in 1964 and 1966)
