Served as director of Grosser Library in Warsaw; fled to Vilna in the second week of September 1939 when the Nazis invaded Poland and was forced into the Vilna ghetto where he rebuilt the library which by September 10, 1941 was lending books. Born in Plock (at the time, Russian territory). Was sent to Estonia where he was murdered on September 18, 1944. His diary (in Yiddish) describes life in the Vilna ghetto.)
