United States Coast Guard, Historian's Office website, March 20, 2020: (Idawalley Zorada Lewis(-Wilson); Ida Lewis; born February 25, 1842 in Newport, Rhode Island; served as a keeper, unofficially, from 1857 to 1879 along with her mother after her father, the keeper at Lime Rock Light, became ill in 1857 and passed away in 1872; her mother was appointed as the official keeper until 1879; died of a stroke while on duty, October 24, 1911 at Lime Rock lighthouse (now called Ida Lewis lighthouse); lighthouse keeper noted for her heroism; spent her life caring for her family and the Lime Rock lighthouse; credited with saving at least 18 lives during her 39 years at Lime Rock)
