Meier, Matt S. Mexican American biographies, 1988: pages 165-166 (Miguel A. Otero, Sr. born in Valencia, N.M. on June 21, 1829. Attended St. Louis University and Pingree's College in New York where he later taught and studied law. Admitted to the bar in 1851 in St. Louis, then returned to New Mexico the next year where he began practicing law in Albuquerque and was elected to the state legislature, then in 1855, 1857, and 1859 to the US House of Representatives. Died May 30, 1882 in Las Vegas, N.M.)
