Wikipedia, March 4, 2019 (Richard Caton Woodville; Richard Caton Woodville Sr.; born Baltimore, Maryland, 30 April 1825; died London, 13 August 1855, age 30, from overdose of morphine; father of Richard Caton Woodville Jr., also a noted artist; in his short career he produced fewer than 20 paintings, but they were well known in their time, largely due to his relationship with the American Art-Union, and have remained prominent in the canon of American painters; studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, remaining in Düsseldorf for six years, studying with Karl Ferdinand Sohn; then went to Paris and London)
