Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992: page 783 (Lovell Harrison Rousseau, soldier and congressman, born in Stanford, Lincoln County, Ky. on August 4, 1818. Studied law in Louisville and in 1840 moved to Bloomfield, Indiana where in Feb. 1841 he was admitted to the bar. Served as captain in the Mexican-American War. Returned to Louisville in 1849 and was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives 1860-1861. Served in the Civil War where he was made a colonel then brigadier general. Elected to the U. S. House of Representatives, serving from March 4, 1865 to July 21, 1866. Relected and served December 3, 1866 to March 3, 1867. In 1867 he returned to the army and formally received the transfer of Alaska from Russia. Took command of the District of Louisiana during Reconstruction in 1868. Died in New Orleans on January 7, 1869.)
