Elected to the state House again in 1820 and 1821, then spent a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1833) as a Whig. Elected as lieutenant governor to James Clark, served after Clark died, September 27, 1839-September 2, 1840. Was appointed U.S. postmaster general 1841-1845. Elected to the U.S. House again in 1861 (March 4, 1861 - March 3, 1863). Died on October 31, 1869.) |
