German Wikipedia, viewed 12 December 2014 (Hanns Wilhelm Eppelsheimer; Born 17 October 1890 in Wörrstadt, died 14 August 1972 in Frankfurt am Main. German librarian and literary critic. Studied jurisprudence, history, French, Germany, art history, and philosophy in Mainz, Freiburg, Munich, and Marburg. Served in World War I. Worked as public librarian in Mainz. He became director of the Landesbibliothek Darmstadt in 1929, but was forced out by the Nazis in 1933 since he was a social democrat; he was reinstated in 1945. In 1946, he became director of the Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main. Co-founded the Deutschen Bibliothek in Frankfurt am Main and directed it from 1947 to 1959. Lectured in comparative literature at the Universität Frankfurt.)
