Embassy of Georgia WWW site, Aug. 22, 2005: (Khists: ethnic group in Republic of Georgia related to Chechens; reside mainly in the Pankisi Gorge)
Jagielski, W. All Lara's wars, 2020: CIP galley (The indigenous Georgian population of Kakheti named the new settlers Kists; Apparently they couldn't pronounce the name these Chechens from the upper branch of the Argun used to define themselves,"Kiistkhoy," which in Chechen means, roughly, "people from the land by the gates;" the Georgian Khevsurians, who had lived along the border for centuries, twisted "Kiistkhoy" and simply called them Kists; according to historians, the Kists took their name from their former settlement to the north of Mount Kirolam, beyond a deep valley that led in a single day's walk to Khevsureti, on the Georgian side. The settlement was on a mountain stream, and its name was Aul Kii. In the language of its inhabitants, the word kii meant "water," and is meant "riverbank." This would imply that the Kiistkhoy were not the "people from the land by the gates," but the "people living on the riverbank")
