Scope noteHere are entered works on an environment in which everyday objects and devices, such as doors, keys, appliances, etc., are embedded with computing and networking technology that enable them to recognize, respond to, and adapt to the presence of human beings, and that enable people to interact with them in an intuitive, natural, and seamless manner.

Talk to me : how voice computing will transform the way we live, work, and think, 2019: Chapt. 1 (Voice is becoming the universal remote to reality, a means to control any and every piece of technology: teaching computers to converse in natural language, a field known as "conversational artificial intelligence" has gained purchase in reality; the rise of mobile has also been a significant enabler of voice; machine learning, getting computers to learn by analyzing data rather than by being explicitly taught, has also been critical; and cloud computing is a final factor. Conversational AI requires immense power; thanks to the cloud, any device can become a voice-enabled one with the addition of a microphone and a Wi-Fi chip. Backed by all of these advances, voice is ushering in what's known as "ambient computing," ; when voice rather than clunky external peripherals can be used for control, the primacy of objects is diminished. The next step will be for the concept of the "device" to fade away. With voice, computers are to be ubiquitous rather than discrete, invisible rather than embodied; with voice, computers are learning our preferred way of communication, through language. Voice, ultimately, is ushering humanity into the age of artificial intelligence)
