The park is bounded by Interstate 295 and the Potomac River on the west, Interstate 95 on the south, Indian Head Highway (Maryland 210) on the east, and the District of Columbia on the north. The park consists of approximately 485 acres, 220 acres of which were formerly used as a landfill. Since 1967 Oxon Cove has been administered by the National Park Service and has operated primarily as a children's farm)
