Found inBiopesticides, state of the art and future opportunities, 2014: ECIP, galley, ch. 1 (Biopesticides, also known as biological pesticides, are pesticides derived from natural materials such as animals, plants, bacteria, and certain minerals. Typically, biopesticides have unique modes of action and are considered reduced risk pesticides; Biochemical pesticides are naturally occurring substances or are synthetically derived equivalents that have a non-toxic mode of action to the target pest(s), and have a history of exposure to humans and the environment demonstrating minimal toxicity. Synthetically derived biochemical pesticides are equivalent to a naturally occurring chemical with such a history. Biochemical pesticides include, but are not limited to: semiochemicals (insect pheromones and kairomones), natural plant and insect regulators, naturally occurring repellents and attractants, induced resistance promoters, and enzymes. Biochemical pesticides typically degrade rapidly and are not persistent in the environment)
