Found inEncyc. of pest management, 2002: p. 247 (Eradication of pests: Eradication is the elimination of reproducing populations of a pest species from a geographic area that is sufficiently isolated to prevent rapid recolonization. Most eradication programs target recently introduced exotic pest species, although some are at well-established species. Various pest management techniques can be used to achieve eradication, including pesticides, sterile insect release, and application of pheromones. The chances of successful eradication increase if species have a limited range and can be easily managed at low-density levels. If eradication appears infeasible or unprofitable the project should assume a containment and or suppression strategy.)
