It indents the coast for 30 miles (50 km) and extends for 50 miles (80 km) between the Snaefells and Reykja peninsulas, to the north and south, respectively. The bay is the largest in Iceland, and its banks form excellent fishing grounds. Faxa Bay includes two eastern arms: Hval Fjord (Hvalfjördhur) and Borgar Fjord (Borgarfjördhur).)
