Taylor, M.J.H. Jane's encyc. of aviation, 1989: p. 869 (Tupolev Tu-26 (Tu22M) (USSR). At least 2 prototypes were built initially; up to 12 pre-production models followed ... by the beginning of 1973. Their official designation was reported to be Tu-26 but the designation Tu-22M has also been mentioned; the NATO reporting name allocated to the aircraft is Backfire.)
