From Edison records catalog: Did you know that for nearly forty years, since Germany took Alsace-Lorraine from France, a monument to it has stood in Paris, draped in black, and every year adorned with flowers? It is the land France has never ceased to mourn and is probably the only territory she hopes to gain by the war. Fred Fisher has been very clever in writing this music. You will notice how it expresses the longing and the hope. It has a sacred tone also, particularly noticeable at the end of the refrain.
