Watercolor image of battle scene, surrounded by images of wounded, hospitals, division and brigade flags above a series of signatures of soldiers, including their regiments. Image includes textual testimonial of gratitude to a Civil War surgeon. No known restrictions on publication. Title inscribed below image. 14th Brooklyn (14th N.Y.S.M.) also known as 84th New York Infantry Regiment. Signed lower left of watercolor image: Conrad Feitag Del. Inscribed above image: Testimonial / We the Undersigned Patients, in the U.S. Army General Hospital "Ladies Home" New York, desireous of expressing our Gratitude for the kind attention and good care, we have received from Surgeon Alex B. Mott U.S. Vols, beg him to accept the accompanying token of our esteem. Inscribed below signature: 14th Rgt, N.Y.S.M. Exchange, Kennedy Galleries, 1959. Conrad Freitag enlisted in the 84th Infantry (New York) in 1862 as a private. He was wounded at Laurel Hill, Virginia in 1864 and mustered out in 1865 from the Ladies Home Hospital as a Corporal.
