Includes a copy of the council's resolves of Sept. 9th, concerning persons refusing to take the oath of allegiance, and on p. 2: To the president and council of Pennsylvania. The remonstrance and protest of the subscribers; signed: Israel Pemberton [and twenty-one others].
Pemberton and the others, principally Quakers, opposed the Revolution because of their religious convictions, and refused to take the oath of allegiance. For this they were imprisoned, first at Mason's Lodge, and later in Virginia, until April 1778.
