  <description xmlns="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Due to its remote location, keepers often spent weeks or months in the structure between breaks. The light station served as a lookout post during World War II. The light in the deteriorating little lightouse was extinguished in 2001. A year later its topmost 25 feet were removed to a park in tiny Sabine Pass, Texas, a community that had been the second-largest in Jefferson County until repeated hurricanes devastated the community.</description>
