Photograph shows Horace Julian Bond, an American social activist, leader of the civil rights movement, politician, professor, and writer. He helped found and served as the communications director of Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from January 1961 to September 1966. In 1965, Bond was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. On January 10, 1966, Georgia state representatives voted 184-12 not to seat him, because he had publicly endorsed SNCC's position on the Vietnam War. A legal case was decided by the Supreme Court at the end of 1966. (Source: Flickr Commons project, 2021)
