  <description xmlns="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Once the Lincoln Home, which was long the only Colored Orphanage and Old Folks Home west of the Mississippi River. Once supported by sixteen Federated Colored Women's Clubs throughout the state, its buildings were donated to the Martin Luther King Holiday Commission and to Ms. Steele, its longtime member, in order to create the cultural center and museum. Opened in 1997, the center is now (2015) a repository of African-American heritage and a meeting place for dialogue about race relations.</description>
