Cartoon shows Governor Al Smith of New York ushering a teapot (labeled "Teapot Dome") on to a stage already occupied by figures labeled "Tariff," "Anti-Prohibition," "Farm Relief," and "Full Dinner Pail." In 1924, Smith was one of the main candidates for the Democratic nomination for president, running on the traditional platforms of tariff reform, farm relief, and prosperity for the working man. Smith also supported modification of the Prohibition Amendment. Like other Democrats, Smith also used the Teapot Dome Scandal to hammer home the culpability of the Republican Administration in the misadministration of public lands and resources.
