A two-panel cartoon. The first panel depicts Columbus's ship leaving America with the hope that the riches of the New World can be transferred to Europe. The second, labeled "1951-But they may make it yet!" shows modern vessels, laden with moneybags, headed for Europe. Drawn for Columbus Day, the cartoon views the U.S. foreign aid program as the fulfillment of Columbus's dream of sending the riches of the New World back to the Old.
