Cartoon shows an exultant Japanese soldier waving a bloody sword labeled "Beheading of Airman." In the background, Japanese troops cheer. During World War II, the Japanese treated prisoners of war harshly and announced a policy of killing captured U.S. airmen. Cartoon may reflect the photograph of an American flyer about to be beheaded by a Japanese soldier that appeared in American newspapers in May 1945.
