Two vignette cartoon shows a sergeant leading new recruits away from the farm. The group of men are riding two to a horse. One man turns to the other and says, "Next time, don't stop long enough for 'em to start talkin'!" In the lower left, the other vignette shows Willie and Joe, two soldiers, sitting on their bedrolls holding "the battlefield sandwich," sodden and unappetizing. One man says to the other, "Swap ya ham with mayonnaise fer plain cheese."
