Uncle Sam experimenting with Karakul sheep, Washington, D.C. Oct. 16. With today's fashions popularizing three types of fur, all coming from the same source--Karakul sheep --The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting breeding experiments at the Beltsville, MD., experiment station which may mean that ultimately American farmers can produce the fur for which the American fur trade paid more than $3,000,000 the last three years. George Kelly, Government breeding expert, is shown with one of the prize rams imported from Bokhara, Central Asia, native home of the Karakul [graphic].
