Portrait of America. No. 106. Vassar - A famous American college for women. 7 - The Easy-To-Use Library. Students at Vassar College are strongly in favor of the open-shelf arrangement of their library's contents, for the system makes the entire collection freely available, and they have direct and comfortable access to books and periodicals. They may study at a quiet alcove table, or in stalls or studies adjoining the stacks, in the midst of the materials required. If they need assistance, they may consult trained librarians. Part of the education of every Vassar student is a knowledge of how to use the library [graphic].
