In spring 1945, Stevens and the SPECOU are in Germany. Scenes include the collapsed Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, an abandoned German airfield, a German military hospital, German prisoners, bombed out buildings, refugees, and American planes transporting Allied troops. At the Dora concentration camp Stevens and others interact with the inmates. Scenes include camp buildings, corpses, emaciated inmates, and parts for V-2 rockets that were produced at Dora.
Stevens at the collapsed Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine River in Remagen, Sign "In memoriam to our comrades who fell with the bridge" with a list of names -- Stevens in his jeep crosses over a pontoon bridge -- Stevens, Hamilton, and Moffatt at an abandoned German airfield, various shots of airplanes -- At the Ludendorff Bridge, Stevens and Moffat are in front of a sign "Captured intact March 7, 1945 by 9th Armored Division, III Corp." -- Scenes at a Germany military hospital -- Civilians on the street, some with carts and wagons loaded with their belongings -- In Frankenau, a large number of German prisoners load into trucks, trucks pull out -- At an airfield, American military planes take off -- At the Dora concentration camp near Nordhausen in April 1945, Stevens and Moffat talk to inmates, various shots of buildings, the camp, Red Cross ambulances and tents, American soldiers taking photographs, covered corpses, emaciated inmates, large metal containers that appear to be connected to gas chambers, and tubular, round objects (parts for V-2 rockets that were produced at Dora) -- City street scenes showing German civilians, demolished buildings, rubble in the street, refugees sitting on the side of the bombed out road, belongings stacked beside them -- At an airfield, troops are loaded onto American planes and the planes take off, other Allied troops wait by the runway to board planes -- In Halle, German firefighters plug in hoses and appear to ask Stevens for permission to put out fires -- Platoon of German troops marches through a town -- Stevens and Hamilton at a bridge as jeeps and other vehicles cross over, "Truman Bridge gateway to Berlin over the Elba courtesy 83rd Thunderbolt Division constructed by the 295 Engr Bn 992 Bridge Co.".

During World War II, film director George Stevens was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army Signal Corps. In late 1943, he was directed to organize a Special Coverage Unit (SPECOU) of cameramen and sound recorders to photograph the Americans landing in Europe on D-Day. The unit was embedded with American and Allied troops as they moved through France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.
