Angelique, known as Angel, moves from France to the United States to marry American architect, John Smith. The newlyweds set up housekeeping in Los Angeles, California. She tries her best to be a good housewife but sometimes runs into problems as she learns English and adapts to her new life and culture. In this episode, Angel's friend Erika is worried about her mother-in-law, who is coming to visit. Erika is a widow and a single mother who works in a nightclub. She thinks her mother-in-law will disapprove, and will try to take her baby. Angel volunteers to take Erika's shift in the nightclub during the mother-in-law's visit, but when Johnny sees the skimpy "uniform" he forbids Angel to go. She agrees to wear a coat over the costume. Johnny acquiesces, but insists on going with her. When the rough customers who patronize the nightclub hear of Erika's problem, they devise a scheme to fool the mother-in-law, but it turns out she only wants to help Erika and her grandchild.
