2 sound recordings (01:13:12) : digital, wav 11 photographs : digital, Camera Raw, color 1 manuscript : digital, pdf Juan Carlos ("Armanii") Soriano, a La Poblanita taco truck worker and the eldest son of the truck's founder/owner Marciela Soriano, discusses his life and how his mother came to open the beloved Mexican food truck in Columbus's Clintonville neighborhood, just across the street from the Marzetti's salad dressing factory. Juan traces his family's entrance into the booming DIY Columbus food scene. He talks about their early childhoods in Puebla, Mexico; his own childhood in a violent gang-riddled Chicago neighborhood; selling "guerilla" tamales at Columbus construction sites; and the opening of La Poblanita, now a popular taco truck. He details challenges and triumphs in his life and his mother's life. He enriches his interview with details of the behind-the-scenes occupational folklife that takes place on the truck, and also talks about the folk art and material culture of the truck itself, which is a mural-bedecked hand-converted horse trailer. The interview took place at night, just after the truck closed, at the picnic table in front of La Poblanita. Collection is open for research.
