Her latest book, "Romantic Outlaws: The Extraordinary Lives of Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley," won the National Book Critics Circle award.</note>
  <note type="biographical/historical">Michael Dirda is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Washington Post Book World, the author of the memoir "An Open Book" and of four collections of essays. He was born in Lorain, Ohio, graduated from Oberlin College and received a doctorate in comparative literature (medieval studies and European romanticism) from Cornell University.</note>
