This dataset is an export of transcriptions for 9,521 images from the John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax Papers digital collection created by volunteers participating in the Library of Congress crowdsourcing program By the People (https://crowd.loc.gov) campaign At the Library and in the Field: John and Alan Lomax Papers. It contains text created by volunteers through a transcription and review process, volunteer-created tags, digital collections metadata, and metadata representing the arrangement of the items in the By the People platform, Concordia.
The dataset includes transcriptions and data generated from the pages in the By the People campaign At the Library and in the Field: John and Alan Lomax Papers (https://crowd.loc.gov/campaigns/lomax-library-field/). The transcription campaign included all then-available online images of digitized content from the John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax Papers (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.afc/collafc.afc1933001), excepting a handful of maps. Folklorists John A. Lomax, Sr., and his son Alan Lomax were stewards of a nascent Archive of American Folk-Song from September 1933 to October 1942. This collection consists of the records of their work administering the growth of that archive, including correspondence, memoranda, reports, notes, and writings. See the John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax Papers digital collection (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.afc/collafc.afc1933001) for all available online items for this collection, as well as contextual information.
This dataset includes: 2022482299.zip - a zip file containing a CSV file and a README file -- lomax-library-field_2023-06-05.csv - a .CSV containing campaign, project, item, itemID, asset, and asset status metadata, as well as an image URL, the volunteer-created transcriptions, and volunteer-created tags. This .CSV is the direct export of the At the Library and in the Field: John and Alan Lomax Papers campaign.
